Exe Valley Eggs are produced on our family farm which is located in the rolling countryside of the beautiful Exe Valley, just north of Tiverton in Devon.
We have been producing free range eggs here for over twenty years, with the business being established as a partnership between Brian and Gay Grimston and son-in-law and daughter John and Mandy Widdowson in 1990.
Whilst John is responsible for the overall running of the business, all family members are on-hand to help when required. John and Mandy’s two daughters, Nicola and Lucy, have spent most of their teenage Saturday and Sunday mornings collecting eggs and are still willing to lend a hand at busy times. In addition to the family workforce, the farm has a loyal and dedicated team of staff who ensure the 365 days-a-year task of producing free range eggs runs smoothly. And we mustn’t forget Dave, our van driver, who puts as much care into delivering the eggs as we do into producing them!
John’s knowledge of egg production is vast and he is one of the free range sector’s most respected figures. He was influential in establishing the British Free Range Egg Producers Association and was vice-chairman of this organisation for over ten years. He has sat on various industry bodies, including the RSPCA group which shapes the welfare standards for free range hens under the Freedom Food assurance scheme. John has now stepped down from the political arena in order to concentrate on running Exe Valley Eggs.
